WE DO NOT INSPECT SUSPECTED METEORITES

The Meteorite Museum, as part of the Institute of Meteoritics, opened in 1974 and is a major educational resource for the university and New Mexico schools. The museum displays many fine samples of stony, stony iron, and iron meteorites from the institute’s collection. The museum is visited by thousands of people every year, including many elementary and high school students from Albuquerque and the surrounding area. The meteorites on display in the museum are only a small part of the research and teaching collection, which includes over 5000 specimen of over 650 samples. All the meteorites in the collection are available for study by researchers within the institute and throughout the world.

The Meteorite Museum is located in Northrop Hall on the Main Campus of the University of New Mexico. It houses many meteorites from the extensive collection of the Institute of Meteoritics. The highlight of the Museum is a one-ton piece of the stony meteorite, Norton County, that fell in Kansas in 1948.

There is no admission fee to visit the Meteorite Museum and tours are self-guided.

The Meteorite Museum is open when student employees are available. The hours are subject to change without notice, according to the students' availability.

The physical address for the building, Northrop Hall, is 221 Yale Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87131. Paid parking is available for campus visitors. Please view this map for parking information.
